Taal is reckoned as the heart of Batangas located in the central portion of the province. This third class municipality was founded by Augustinian friars in 1572 and is currently led by municipal mayor Michael D. Montenegro.

HISTORY TRACES

The so-called heritage town is famous for its old ancestral houses and landmarks which traces back the opulent history of the entire town during the Spanish colonization.

TAAL BASILICA

Acclaimed as the largest Catholic Church in Asia, the Basilica of St. Martin de Tours is one dumbfounding landmark that is often overrun by people from various places especially during the "Lenten Season". This 96 meter high church had gone several reconstructions after being ruined by natural phenomenons and until now remains flamboyant mirroring the structure of that St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

NATURE'S BEST

Taal Volcano is a complex volcano located in Taal, Batangas. Around this is a freshwater lake formerly known as Bombón and is now known as Taal Lake. This is where an endemic fish can only be found and nowhere else in the world, the “tawilis”.

These perfectly crafted wonders of nature overwhelms several tourists, both local and foreign which gives livelihood to the town’s people and even gains more popularity not only in the corners of the Philippines but also even outside the country.

FOODS AND LOCAL PRODUCTS

Since then, the people of Taal lived by farming and commerce. This is also popular in home industries such as the weaving and embroidery of barong and camisa that are made from piña.

Other products produced in the town are: balisong and various food treats such as the panocha, tamales, empanada and suman sa lihiya and the local longganisa. Taal is also known for their popular Filipino dishes like Adobong Dilaw, tapa and sinaing na tulingan.
