Mayor Michael Angelo C. Rivera is currently governing this small town in Batangas which was once part of Rosario and once called “Lumang Bayan”. This is a second class municipality and known as “Cattle Trading Capital of the Philippines”. This was founded in 1949.

Drop by and Worship

This was built and administered by the Augustinians in 1776 dedicated to Sto. Rosario, the original church was burned during the Spanish war of 1898. After it was transferred to the Oblates of St. Joseph in 1928, the church was again destroyed during the liberation of the Philippines in 1945 and restored by 1949.

On the other hand, Padre Garcia is the hometown of a priest and Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere defender, Padre Vicente Garcia where the name of the town is actually derived. He and Rizal were friends during the time when they are fighting for the Philippine’s independence from Spain.

Livelihood and Local

Products

The municipality of Padre Garcia is a quiet little town as one can only expect of a largely agrarian community. This town produces various crops such as the very well-known “dalandan” or sour orange, mango, sugarcane and rice.

During Fridays, here comes the buyers from far and wide travel all the way to the town for the auction. That title is, of course, not just a tad misleading. Apart from cattle, also traded in large numbers are carabaos, horses and goats.

Carinderias and other food joints seduce the comers with food from freshly slaughtered livestock‒ these food joints offer delicacies from the more traditional goto and kaldereta to the more exotic ginataang kalabaw and champeni. The kaldereta, of course is offered as either goat or beef.

After taking up these irresistible dishes, it’s a perfect time for a dessert. Then chill and head on to “Jhun and Anna’s Special Halo-Halo” store where you can find the best halo-halo in town. From gulaman, sago, sweetened banana, camote and ube topped with a leche flan and poured with milk, this 30 peso delicious treat will wake up your soul for every spoon is a feel like heaven.
